SARAY // Mozart alla turca (excerpt)

SARAY // Mozart alla turca is a reworking of W.A. Mozart’s The Abduction from the Seraglio. This adaptation was conceived for an ensemble of Turkish singers and musicians. It incorporates numerous Turkish elements, ranging from the language to the instrumentation. The reworking explores the clash between two cultures and provides a framework for examining the complex relationships between Europe and Turkey.

N4 Nature Paradise

N4 Nature Paradise  emerged from a journey that Ibrahim Quraishi took to Japan. Rather than taking photographs, he recorded sounds. As he moved through the country, he recorded fragments of it: ambient noise, textures, the acoustic residue of a place. Four nights after his return, alone with these recordings, he started combining them into something unexpected — almost a pop song. The result is a hazy electronic recollection, less a document of Japan than a memory of it refracted through jet lag and distance and half-dissolved into rhythm.
